“Anne was a cherished wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend—her smile brightened every space she entered,” her family shared. “Her light touched millions worldwide. Though she’s gone, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love endure.”

Burrell is survived by her husband, Stuart Claxton, whom she married in 2021, his son Javier, her mother Marlene, sister Jane, children Isabella, Amelia, and Nicolas, and brother Ben.

A Culinary Star’s Journey

Born September 21, 1969, in Cazenovia, New York, Burrell’s passion for cooking was sparked by her mother’s meals and Julia Child’s TV presence. After earning an English degree from Canisius College, she graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in 1996 and studied Italian cuisine abroad. Back in New York, she honed her skills at restaurants like Felidia and Savoy, mastering Mediterranean flavors.

Burrell’s television career began as a sous chef on Iron Chef America. Her charisma led to the Emmy-nominated Secrets of a Restaurant Chef (2008–2017), followed by roles on Chef Wanted, Chopped, Food Network Star, and House of Knives (premiered March 2025). She was best known for hosting Worst Cooks in America, transforming kitchen novices with her mentorship and humor.

Beyond the Kitchen

A New York Times bestselling author, Burrell wrote Cook Like a Rock Star (2011) and Own Your Kitchen. She was also a philanthropist, supporting the Garden of Dreams Foundation, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and City Harvest’s Food Council.

Meeting Claxton on Bumble in 2018, Burrell cherished their marriage. “I love being married,” she told PEOPLE in 2023. “It’s the adventure together.”
