A former Louisiana junior high school teacher has been sentenced to 41 years behind bars for one of the most disturbing child abuse cases in recent memory.
Cynthia Perkins, 36, stood before a judge and pleaded guilty to second-degree rape, production of child pornography, and mingling harmful substances.
Under the terms of her plea deal, she will serve 40 years before even becoming eligible for parole.
Originally facing 72 felony charges, prosecutors dropped 68 counts in exchange for her full cooperation.
A key condition: she must testify against her ex-husband, Dennis Perkins, a disgraced former sheriff’s deputy now facing 150 criminal charges, most involving sex crimes against children.
The nightmare began in 2019 when the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children tipped off authorities.
Investigators uncovered nude images of the couple with an underage victim and chilling hidden-camera footage.
Court documents and a civil lawsuit allege Cynthia recorded Dennis ejaculating into cupcakes and other desserts.
Those tainted treats were then knowingly served to unsuspecting students at Westside Junior High School.
Prosecutors say the couple also sexually abused at least one child together.
Despite the reduced charges, Assistant Attorney General Barry Milligan stressed that the remaining counts captured the absolute worst of her actions.
Victims and their families were consulted and ultimately supported the plea deal, believing it delivered justice while shielding the children from a lengthy public trial.
Cynthia resigned the day after her arrest; Dennis was immediately fired from the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Now divorced, Cynthia claims her ex-husband manipulated and coerced her into the crimes.
Through her attorney, she has branded Dennis “the real monster” and says she is eager to take the stand against him.
Dennis Perkins remains in jail awaiting trial scheduled for May.
The case continues to horrify the Livingston Parish community and beyond.
