Ukrainian Sniper Shatters World Record with 2.5-Mile Kill Shot in Intense Donetsk Battle

A Ukrainian sniper has reportedly set a new world record for the longest confirmed kill shot in history, striking from an astonishing distance.

The shot, fired from a 14.5mm Alligator sniper rifle, covered over two-and-a-half miles on August 14 in Ukraine’s Donetsk region.

Dramatic footage, obtained by The Sun, captures the sniper and his spotter preparing multiple rounds before the bullet pierced a glass window, striking two Russian soldiers.

The shot’s distance, measured at 13,123 feet, surpasses the previous record of over 2.3 miles set by Ukrainian sniper Viacheslav Kovalskyi in 2023.

Before Kovalskyi, a Canadian special operations sniper held the record with a 2.19-mile shot in Iraq in 2017, highlighting the evolution of long-range warfare.

The mission occurred on the Pokrovsk–Myrnohrad defensive line, where Russia has deployed over 110,000 troops to breach Ukrainian defenses.

Ukrainian forces confirmed on Friday that they continue to hold the line, resisting intense Russian efforts to advance in the region.

The Sun reports that artificial intelligence, paired with a drone reconnaissance system, was crucial in pinpointing the targets for the elite Ghost unit (Pryvyd) sniper platoon.

Pryvyd, a specialized unit within Ukraine’s Ground Forces, has reportedly eliminated nearly 1,000 Russian soldiers in the past year alone.

This record-breaking shot coincides with renewed global focus on the war, following a high-stakes meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Anchorage on August 15.

As the conflict’s technological advancements, like this sniper mission, underscore its intensity, world leaders push for diplomatic resolutions amid ongoing battlefield challenges.
