Nykia Hamilton, a 25-year-old single mom of three, became an internet sensation after a video showcasing her managing all stations at a Burger King restaurant in Columbia, South Carolina, went viral. She handled everything from the front desk to the drive-thru counter, impressing customers with her multitasking skills.
“I had to do the dishes, do prep, do the floor, do the front counter, drive-thru,” Hamilton said in an emotional interview, explaining the challenges of working solo due to a staff shortage.

Hamilton’s viral fame, however, came with a price. She claims Burger King fired her because she’s been late to work due to her kids. “My kids come first. Y’all don’t pay for no babysitter, or nothing,” she said.
The newfound attention has also taken a toll on Hamilton’s mental health. “I’m already aggravated, I’m already depressed, all of this mental stuff, and people messing with me, so leave me alone,” she expressed.
After losing her job, Hamilton set up a GoFundMe page and has received over $64,000 in donations. On the page, she wrote: “I am a 25-year-old single mom of 3 who works 2 jobs. I just went viral for working on TikTok. If you wanna contribute, it’s ok. Thank y’all for the support.”
Hamilton often works more than 12 hours in a shift, sacrificing time with her kids to provide for them. “I be missing out on my kids’ lives when I work so much,” she said. “I have to provide for them, but I really don’t have time to spend with them, and it hurts me a lot.”

The day after her solo shift, Hamilton was again called to keep the restaurant running. “I closed again by myself last night. I finally got help today. 11 o’clock and will stay until close at 11,” she said.
Hamilton attributed the staff shortage to a lack of willing workers. “We just don’t have any employees. Nobody wants to work anymore,” she stated.
Burger King has been contacted for comment regarding Hamilton’s termination.
Despite the challenges, Hamilton is grateful for her previous manager, who she credits with giving her a chance despite having a record. “I wouldn’t have no job because I do have a record, and it is hard to find a job with a record,” she added.
Hamilton’s situation highlights the struggles of working parents and the importance of work-life balance.
Her GoFundMe page has sparked an outpouring of support, with many donors appreciating her dedication to her kids.
The outcome of Hamilton’s situation remains uncertain, but her story has resonated with many, shedding light on the challenges faced by single parents in the workforce.
Hamilton’s experience has also raised questions about employee welfare and support in the fast-food industry.
